Tiyyul Tanach
Thursday we set off for a Tiyyul Tanach. We boarded the bus at 8:30 am and headed out to Tel Azaikah, the scene of the famous showdown between David and Goliath! We began by learning the backdrop to the story in a shiur outdoors witth our teachers,, and then we proceeded to hear explanation from a very friendly, passionate and helpful guide. we were then treated to a performance by an acting troupe who acted out the psukim that we were all reading - in a very dramatic way, with costumes and armor! We continued to walk a beautiful hike and then enjoy a BBQ lunch where we were all given out little "Midreshet" flashlights to be used at our next stop: the Bar Kochva caves. There too we were taught by the guide as well as the actors about the Jews' hiding from the Romans years after they had destroyed the Beit HaMikdash. Bar Kochva led the rebellion as Jewish families were forced to live in caves - caves that we crawled through...well, most of us. Some students' claustrophobia held them back. All in all, it was an informative and entertaining day which left us with an understanding of and appreciation for the our history which took place right here in our own backyard.
