This Week at Midreshet
Last week ended with a Simcha filled bang. The girls started their Purim on Thursday visiting their teachers in the Gush. They started in Alon Shvut at Leora Bednarsh with a salad bar (and lots of singing, dancing, divrei Torah of course!). The next stop was Efrat, to Bracha Krohn's delicious potato bar and they ended in Neve Daniel at Rav Eitan's for an ice cream sundae bar. Everyone had an amazing time, BUT it wasn't over yet! We still had Purim in Yerushalyim to celebrate!
Thursday night, dressed up in their 'trendy trio' costumes, the girls heard an amazing Megillah reading by Vicky and Rav Berglas's' grandson, followed by a dance filled Chagigah. Kol HaKavod to Elianna Kaufman on the beautiful Dvar Torah! The night ended with an exciting auction with prizes and services donated by Midreshet staff and faculty. Prizes included home baked muffins, cheesecake, sushi making dinner party, private chavrutot, tiyulim, guitar lessons and the most popular prize; going to Rabbi Neventzal for a bracha and a shmooze! All the profits went to the Shana Alef Gush Katif Kallah Fund. The girls raised over 3,000 nis!
Friday morning everyone walked over to the old age home in Bayit Vegan to hear Megillah reading and dance with the residents. Seuda was delicious with food catered by our very own teacher, Fagie Reves, The Gush Gourmet. Rav Zvi Ron added to the festivities with his great Purim Shtik!
Purim may be over but life at Midreshet is as busy as ever. Pesach is just around the corner! Tuesday was a jam packed day with Darkeinu coming to learn with Midreshet girls for a pre-Pesach program. As always, the learning was enjoyed by all. Tuesday afternoon we had the honor of hearing from Rabbi Schonfeld, Vicky's father, who enlightened us all with personal stories of his relationship with Rav Soloveitchik. Tuesday night we had matzah baking and a mock Seder to get the girls ready for Pesach.
We finished off the week with our annual faculty panel moderated by Rav Eitan and made up of Malka Hubscher, Leora Bednarsh and Rav Lerner, who answered all the girls Pesach vacation questions - the Pesach part and the vacation part J.

Something to Think About
Rav Jason Knapel
The Mishkan must have been created by hundreds of people. Every type of skilled profession was involved from sewing to metal working to tanning etc… And yet the name most connected to the Mishkan is Betzalel. Even his partner in construction - Oholiav is not as well known as Betzalel. Rashi explains that Betzalel was “Moser Nefesh”- he dedicated his entire being to the construction of the Mishkan and therefore his name was forever connected with the Mishkan.
Where did Betzalel learn this dedication, how did he grow into this role? The Pasuk when describing Betzalel says Betzalel ben Ori ben Chur LeMateh Yehudah. Ori was Betzalel’s father – but why add in ben Chur? Herein lays the answer. Chur was the son of Miriam who together with Aharon stood against the entire nation during Chet HaEgel. In fact he was willing to give up his life for HaKaDosh BaRuch Hu. Chur was dedicated and committed even up until death for what he thought was right. And he came from Mateh Yehudah – Yehudah who was willing to sacrifice his own Olam HaBa in order to protect Binyamin. Shevet Yehudah that produced Nachshon ben Aminadav who was willing to jump into the sea in order to demonstrate his faith in Hashem. Shevet Yehuda that produced David HaMelech who while yet a “naar” was willing to go against Goliyat to preserve the name and pride of Klal Yisrael.
There are 2 ways to be “Moser Nefesh” one is to die for Kiddush Hashem the other is to live for Kiddush Hashem – to dedicate one’s life to the cause of increasing Hashem’s presence in the world, to increasing Hashem’s goodness in the world……
So I leave all of us (including myself) with the following question to think about over Shabbat: Have we dedicated our lives to something meaningful today? Have we dedicated our lives to something greater than ourselves? Have we dedicated our lives to being Moser Nefesh for the Klal? Is there something “Good” in the world that will be “called in our name”?
Something to think about…..
Shabbat Shalom
